New Delhi, September 12: Indonesia was rocked by a strong earthquake on Saturday. The earthquake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, triggering panic among residents in the affected areas.According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the epicentre of the earthquake was located at a depth of around 376 kilometres below the Earth’s surface. No major casualties or large-scale damage have been reported so far.The tremors reportedly caused cracks in the walls of some houses. As the
earthquake struck late at night, many people were asleep when the tremors were felt. Following the sudden shaking, several residents rushed out of their homes in fear.So far, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries due to the earthquake. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and assessing the impact of the tremors.The earthquake was felt in parts of Java Island on Saturday. A day earlier, on Friday, tremors were also reported in the Maluku Islands region of Indonesia.Meanwhile, no tsunami alert has been issued so far. However, the government has directed local agencies to remain alert and closely monitor the situation as a precautionary measure.
