Mumbai: Despite continuing its strong performance in theatres, spiritual film ‘Hanuman Ansh’ could not enter the race to become India’s official submission for the Oscars 2026. However, the film was reportedly not rejected by the selection committee. The main reason was that the Oscar submission deadline was missed.
Why Was ‘Hanuman Ansh’ Not Submitted for the Oscars?
According to producer Namrata Singh, who recently spoke to Bollywood Hungama, the deadline to submit films for consideration as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category was September 7.
The film’s team was reportedly unaware of the deadline and therefore could not submit ‘Hanuman Ansh’ within the stipulated time.
Namrata explained that the team was simultaneously busy with several activities, including Telugu dubbing, preparations for releases in other languages, accessibility arrangements for differently-abled audiences and promotional tours.
‘Hanuman Ansh’ Telugu Version to Release on September 18
The Telugu version of ‘Hanuman Ansh’ is scheduled to hit theatres on September 18. The Telugu release marks the beginning of the film’s expansion into other languages.
Filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas is also associated with the Telugu version. The announcement was made on September 11 on the occasion of Neem Karoli Baba’s Mahasamadhi Day.
What Is ‘Hanuman Ansh’ About?
Written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, the film features Shobhinav Satya as Neem Karoli Baba.
The cast also includes Chandan K. Anand, Nikhil Dubey, Anil Rastogi, Sugandha Malhotra and Bhagwandas Patel.
The story revolves around a young man named Lakshmi Narayan. After the death of his mother, he leaves home in search of God. His spiritual journey takes him through different parts of North India during the pre-independence era, eventually leading to his identity as Neem Karoli Baba.
‘Hanuman Ansh’ Continues Its Strong Box Office Run
While the film missed the Oscar submission deadline, its box office journey continues.
According to Sacnilk, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ earned around ₹0.94 crore nett in India on its 38th day. Its total domestic nett collection reportedly reached ₹194.07 crore, while its India gross collection stood at around ₹229.26 crore.
Meanwhile, reports claiming that the film had secured a ₹100 crore OTT deal have been denied by producer Ragini Sona. Since the film is still running in theatres, the team is currently focusing on its box office performance.
